Specific tasks
- Familiarise with case background pre-panel.
- Engage and facilitate a conversation with the young person, parents/carers and victim (if present) in order to create a tailor-made and individual contract aimed at repairing some of the harm caused.
- Discuss and recommend programmes which can help reduce the likelihood of re-offending.
- Review young person’s progress.
- In partnership with the Youth Justice Officer (YJO), evaluate and consider cases of non-compliance.
Timeframe
- Post-training commitment - Minimum one year.
- Panel availability - Two sessions per month.
- Sessions - Monday to Friday (morning, afternoon or evening).

Selection criteria/skills required
- Over 19 years old.
- An interest in, and empathy for, young people.
- Non-judgemental attitude.
- Good communication skills and ability to chair meetings.
- Ability to operate in line with the key principles of Restorative Justice.
- Ability to operate as part of a team.
- Ability to be appropriately assertive.
- Professional approach to the role.
- Able to respect and operate within service policies and procedures.
- Commitment to, and engagement with ongoing support, training and development.
