Education Centre at Ford Materials Recycling Facility

The Education Centre at Ford Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) is a unique visitor experience allowing children and adults to see for themselves what happens inside the site.

Visits are available (Monday to Friday, 9.00am-4.00pm) free of charge to schools and community groups in West Sussex. They include a short presentation, an opportunity to see the MRF’s state-of-the-art technology from the viewing platform and a question and answer session.

The MRF is a working, industrial environment. All visitors taking part in the viewing platform tour will be issued with personal protective equipment, including ear defenders, and dust masks are available on request.

There is wheelchair access to the Education Centre, but not the viewing platform. Wheelchair users or individuals reliant on a walking stick or stability aid can watch live CCTV footage from the Education Centre.

All groups are insured whilst on site.

School group visits

School visits are usually made up of a maximum of 30 pupils. If you have more than this contact the Education Officer to discuss options.

Sessions last approximately two and a half hours; these can be extended to incorporate lunch or a full day. Please liaise with the Education Officer to arrange this.

We strongly recommend that teachers interested in bringing a school group arrange a pre-visit. This allows arrangements for the day to be discussed and risk assessments made.

Children must be at least 7 years old to attend in order to comply with health and safety.

Group and individual visits

Groups of between 8-14 adults can attend the site. Visits last approximately two hours.

We also host open sessions throughout the year for individuals who are not part of a group. To find out when the next open sessions are planned, complete our enquiry form below.
