Details of household collections in West Sussex.

Your local district or borough council is responsible for collecting your household bins.

In West Sussex, all of the districts and boroughs collect the same core recyclable materials from your home. Find out more about what can go into your recycling bin.

All of the districts and boroughs also offer varying additional recycling collections for materials like small electricals, textiles and batteries.

  • All waste collections in the Adur and Worthing area are made by Adur and Worthing Councils.

    Recycling collection

    • Wheelie bin colour: Grey with blue lid.
    • Frequency: Fortnightly.

    General waste collection

    • Wheelie bin colour: Most households will have a bin with a dark grey or black lid embossed with one dot.
    • Frequency: Fortnightly.

    Additional collections

    • Small electricals - You can recycle old or broken electrical items, including vapes, by placing them next to your rubbish bin or recycling bin on your normal collection day. Items must fit into a standard size carrier bag which you will need to provide.
    • Batteries - Batteries can be recycled by placing them in a plastic bag next to your rubbish or recycling bin on your normal collection day.
    • Textiles - Kerbside textile collections are not currently available, use local textile banks or Recycling Centres.

  • All waste collections in the Arun area are made by Biffa on behalf of ADC.

    Recycling collection

    • Wheelie bin colour: Most households will have a green bin with blue lid. Residents in Arundel have a recycling sack.
    • Frequency: Fortnightly.

    General waste collection

    • Present waste in black sacks.
    • Frequency: Weekly.

    Additional collections

    • Small electricals - You can recycle old or broken electrical items, including vapes, by placing them next to your rubbish bin or sacks on your normal rubbish collection day. Items must fit into a standard size carrier bag which you will need to provide.
    • Batteries - Battery collections are not currently available. Take batteries to your local Recycling Centre or make use of a local shops free battery bin.
    • Textiles - Kerbside textile collections are not currently available, use local textile banks or Recycling Centres.

    • Frequency: Fortnightly.

    • Small electricals - Kerbside small electrical collections, including vapes, are offered to 75% of households in the district as part of CDCs textiles, small electrical and coffee pod recycling service. You can recycle old or broken electrical items by booking a collection online.
    • Batteries - Battery collections are not currently available. Take batteries to your local Recycling Centre or make use of a local shop’s free battery bin.
    • Textiles - Kerbside textile collections are offered to 75% of households in the district as part of CDCs textiles, small electrical and coffee pod recycling service. Residents can book a textile collection and leave textiles out for recycling on their designated day.

    • Batteries - You can recycle your old household batteries on your rubbish bin collection day by putting your batteries in a small clear plastic bag (such as a sandwich bag) or clean plastic pot or tub with a lid and place it on top of your household rubbish bin on collection day.
    • Textiles - The kerbside textile collection service is available to all individual households or where small two-wheeled communal bins are provided at smaller blocks of flats. Textiles for recycling can be placed in a carrier bag and put out with the red-topped recycling bin.

    • Small electricals - You can recycle your old or broken small electricals, including vapes, by booking a collection online and leaving them out for recycling on their designated day.
    • Batteries - You can recycle your batteries at home placing your batteries in a small, clear plastic bag (such as a sandwich bag) and placing the bag on top of your green-top refuse bin or your blue-top recycling bin on collection day.
    • Textiles - Textile collections are offered kerbside to all residents. Collections must be booked online and residents are asked to leave textiles out in a carrier bag on their designated day.
    • Coffee pods - You can recycle your used coffee pods through Podback by booking a collection online and leaving them out for recycling on their designated day.

    Selected households receive this service in Mid-Sussex. Collection frequencies for residents in selected areas are as follows:

    • General waste black bins: Every 3 weeks.
    • Recycling blue-lidded bins: Fortnightly.
    • Green food waste caddies: Weekly.
