Invasive plants must not be disposed of at home.

  • Important information

    Invasive plants such as:

    • Giant Hogweed
    • Himalayan Balsam
    • Common Ragwort
    • Buddleia
    • Hemlock
    • Hemlock Water Dropwart
    • Yew

    must not be disposed of in your general waste, garden waste, or composter at home.

    Small amounts (up to 2 x 80L bags) of these plants can be taken to your local recycling centre as long as they are bagged. You must notify a staff member before disposing of any of these plants.

    Japanese knotweed is a very invasive weed and highly damaging to the built and natural environment. It is therefore not accepted at any recycling centre in West Sussex.

    Any soils within a 7 metre radius surrounding Japanese knotweed will also not be accepted at any recycling centre.

  • Which RC accept this waste?

    All our recycling centres are able to accept small quantities (up to 2 X 80L bags) of invasive plants (except Japanese knotweed) as long as they are bagged.

  • Which RC container?

    Please notify a staff member at the recycling centre who will be able to advise you.
