How to recycle used household batteries.

Batteries, including household batteries, should never be placed in your home bins, as when they are crushed as part of the disposal process, they become a fire risk.

Use the special container for household batteries.

  • Which RC accept this waste

All our Recycling Centres accept household batteries.

  • Safety information

Batteries are a major fire hazard. They also contain heavy metals such as cadmium and zinc that can be toxic to the environment if not disposed of correctly.

  • Further information

Some shops and supermarkets that sell batteries will collect and recycle them for you.

Additionally, check for district and borough kerbside battery collection services in your area on our Household collections page.

If you have old batteries in toys or appliances, make sure you remove them before recycling.
