Peer support and events

Receive friendship, understanding and advice from other kinship carers.

Peer Support programme

The programme provides support and advice to carers, from someone who has relevant experience and who can pass on their expertise.

As one carer put it, peer support is here to ‘help you find your feet’. It can support you whether you are new to your caring role, are just going through a difficult patch, or you are feeling isolated.

We encourage all carers to think about self-care and whether peer support could be beneficial to them. Carers can be referred into the project by their allocated worker, or can self-refer.

Our peer support events are organised by the Kinship Support team. To self-refer, contact us.

Kinship social events

We hold two main social events each year, a summer and winter party.

These give kinship families the chance to get together, enjoy some entertainment and have fun.

Staff from our team are also on hand to celebrate our kinship families!

Mockingbird

We are proud to be part of The Fostering Network’s Mockingbird project. Mockingbird works on the principle, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’. Having a number of caring adults greatly improves the experiences for those children who live away from birth parents.

Mockingbird carers are mainstream foster carers and special guardians who live close to each other. They are supported by Hub Home carers who arrange social events, support, training, sleepovers. These are opportunities for families to come together and share their experiences and strengths.

Annual Kinship Conference

This annual event is held in October, during Kinship Care Week. It brings together carers and staff for a day of networking, educational workshops and inspirational presentations by experts.

With marketplace stalls from various internal teams and external organisations, this event is designed to celebrate, educate and empower our kinship carers.
