Thinking about becoming a childminder?
About childminders
Childminders are early years practitioners too - they are Ofsted registered and provide early education and care in a safe, fun, engaging environment, supporting children with their learning and development.
The difference is they do this from their own home and usually provide care for children under the age of 8. They can work alone or in partnership with other childminders.
Things to consider about becoming a childminder are:
- childminding offers a fantastic business opportunity for those who want to be their own boss - they can choose the hours they work and the services they offer
- childminders have the flexibility to care for their own children at the same time - they can look after a maximum of six children including their own (only three can be under 5 years old and only one can be under the age of 1)
- childminders are not babysitters - they are inspected by Ofsted and also have the responsibility of running their own business
