Deborah has lived in Clapham with her husband Jim, for over 20 years and has always taken an active interest in the local community. Whilst serving as Chairman of Governors of Clapham and Patching CE Primary School she learned the importance of access to rural services.

Having qualified as an accountant at a top London practice, Deborah pursued a financial career at a number of blue-chip organisations. She moved to Sussex to work for a local energy company and was appointed Finance Director in 2001, the first female director of the Group.

Deborah was first elected to the County Council in 2006 and has served on a number of committees. She firmly believes in actively promoting the economy as well as championing the protection of our environment and local landscape. Whilst Cabinet Member responsible for the Environment and Economy she set up the West Sussex Environmental Board, uniquely made up of organisations and leading businesses to champion sustainability and reduce energy consumption. She has also served as the Chairman of Performance and Finance Select Committee and is the Council’s nomination on the South Downs National Park Authority.

Deborah’s leisure interests include being taken for walks by her dog, listening to music and reading.

Deborah is the Cabinet Member for Environment.
