What is the Your Health Matters survey?
Your Health Matters is a survey about health and wellbeing in West Sussex. Questions cover a range of topics including physical activity, food and diet, smoking, alcohol use and mental wellbeing.
We are carrying out this survey as information from our residents about their health and wellbeing is vital to help us plan services and support people to live longer, happier and healthier lives.
Who will be invited to take part?
To make sure the findings represent residents across West Sussex, a random sample of addresses has been selected from the Royal Mail Postcode Address File. Addresses are chosen entirely at random and we do not know anything about residents before they are selected.
In 2024, West Sussex County Council carried out a similar health and wellbeing survey, also called Your Health Matters. If you were invited to take part in this survey, regardless of whether you took part or not, we would very much like to hear from you this time around.
We will not be able to link any of your results from the 2024 survey with the current survey.
Any responses you may have given in the 2024 survey cannot be linked to your responses in this survey.
Who is carrying out the survey?
The survey is being carried out by Navigator Insight, a market research company, on behalf of West Sussex County Council.
What does taking part involve?
The survey takes place online and should take around 15 minutes to complete. Details of how to take part are included in your invitation letter. The envelope containing the invitation letter will include the stamp at the top of this page so you know what the letter is about.
If you are unable, or do not wish to complete the survey online, you can also request a paper version, or complete the survey over the telephone by contacting Navigator Insight.
As a thank you for taking part, you can enter a prize draw to win a £500, £250 or £100 gift voucher, with a further 20 chances to win a £50 voucher.
Only one person in your household should take part. The survey will close on 16 November 2026.
Is the survey confidential?
All information you provide will be treated confidentially and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Your responses will only be used for research purposes and you will not be identifiable in any reports or publications.
If you would like to learn more about how West Sussex County Council protects your personal data, you can read the Public Health privacy notice.
How will the information be used?
The information you give will help us to build a picture of the health and wellbeing of West Sussex residents in 2026 and will be used for research purposes only.
We plan to write up the findings from the survey, but it will not be possible to identify you in any publications or reports.
We are aiming to publish the results of the survey in Summer 2027 on the West Sussex Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) website.
Do I have to take part?
No. Taking part is voluntary, and if you do decide to take part, you do not have to answer any questions you do not want to. However, we are keen that as many residents as possible do take part so we can reflect the health and wellbeing of all West Sussex residents.
