Upcoming events

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is opening its fire stations doors to the public this summer.

All of the upcoming open days are free entry, and you can be guaranteed that there will be something there for all the family including live demonstrations, fire appliances on display and free safety advice.

Upcoming open days

  • East Preston Fire Station – 22 June, 10am – 4pm
  • Worthing Fire Station – 20 July, 9am - 10am for S.E.N families, 10am – 4pm for everyone. Please note wristbands for SEN families attending from 9am have now sold out. These were given to ensure the hour before the open day officially opens remains quiet. 
  • Bognor Regis Fire Station – 27 July, 10am – 4pm
  • Crawley Fire Station – 10 August, 9.30am - 10.30am for S.E.N families, 10.30am – 4pm for everyone
  • Shoreham Fire Station – 17 August, 9am – 4pm
  • Haywards Heath Fire Station – 24 August, 10.30am – 11.30am for S.E.N families, 11.30am – 4pm for everyone
  • Burgess Hill Fire Station – 28 August, 10am – 2pm
  • East Grinstead Fire Station - 25 August, 9.30am – 10.30am for S.E.N. families, 10.30am – 4.30pm for everyone

Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Gary Ball, said: “We are excited to welcome local communities into our fire stations for another great summer of open days and fire-related fun.

“Open days are a great way for people to meet their local firefighters and take a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes on behind the scenes.”

What to expect

Demonstrations

Demonstrations

At your local fire station open day you will get to see firefighters carry out live demonstrations of the work they do. This may be in the form of a road traffic collision demonstration where you will see crews remove the roof and perform the rescue a casualty, a reconstruction of a chip pan fire or firefighters may simulate a fire at the top of the drill tower.

Fire engines

Fire engines

We have a fleet of vehicles designed to effectively respond to a wide range of incidents.

We the standard fire engines that you will likely be familiar with, as well as specialist vehicles used at incidents such as wildfires and rescues from height. When attending an open day you will get to take a look round some of these vehicles.

At some of our open days there will also be vintage fire engines.

Entertainment

Entertainment

Many of our partner agencies attend and take part in station open days. Here you will be able to meet the people we work with to help keep your local community safe.

We try to include as much entertainment as possible for the kids at our open days from balloon twisters to ice cream vans. Please note: entertainment varies at each open day and is not guaranteed.

From fires to rescues and road traffic collisions, our firefighters attend thousands of emergencies every year.

At our open days you will get to speak to your local firefighters and get safety advice to help keep you and your loved ones safe.
