Low Carbon Across the South and East (LOCASE) programme

The LoCASE programme, now drawn to a close, helped Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) grow sustainably and improve their energy efficiency through funding and business support.

Environmentally-focused businesses could apply for a business development grant of up to £20,000. Businesses in industries not typically considered ‘green’ could apply for an energy/resource efficiency grant of up to £20,000.

LoCASE was delivered locally by the University of Brighton’s Green Growth Platform.

The business development grants were used for a range of projects, including:

  • equipment and machinery
  • product development
  • marketing
  • IT
  • consultancy
  • certification and accreditation
  • energy efficiency.

The efficiency grants were designed for projects that help reduce carbon emissions and operating costs. They  covered items such as:

  • LED lighting
  • insulation
  • heating or machinery upgrades
  • renewable energy systems
  • waste reduction.

Several West Sussex businesses received grants. Here are the stories of just two:

  • Tottington Manor Hotel sits in the South Downs, West Sussex. The business is on a mission to reduce their Greenhouse Gas emissions, and secured LoCASE funding with support from the University of Brighton’s Green Growth Platform to do so. Read more about Tottington Manor’s story.
  • Beyond Procurement are a procurement consultancy for improving business profits while caring for the planet. Formally known as Meercat Associates, Beyond Procurement was awarded a Business Development Grant, enabling them to create a new brand identity and a net zero offering. The Green Growth Platform sat down with David Robertson, Marketing Manager of Beyond Procurement, to find out more. Read more about Beyond Procurement's story.
