Barnham Road, Barnham, collapsed sewer: urgent road repairs start on diversion route

Every effort is being made by West Sussex Highways to keep the village connected

Release date: 15 December 2023. Please also see update, below

Following the closure of Barnham Road, Barnham, due to a collapsed sewer, every effort is being made by West Sussex Highways to keep the village connected, including with bus services.

Local roads have suffered through increased traffic on the diversion route and now need urgent repairs so they can remain open until the Southern Water sewer repair is completed.

Road repairs will be carried out today (Friday) and over the weekend. Diversions will be in place, which will change as the work progresses. Buses will still be able to get to the southern part of Barnham village.

A West Sussex Highways spokesperson said: “Delays are likely in the area and we would ask road users to please allow extra time for any essential travel and to please follow the diversion routes.”

Update: these works were completed on 5 January 2024 and the road reopened
