WSCC Sensory Support Team

About

This is a West Sussex County Council service.

The West Sussex Sensory Support Team works directly with children and their families, pre-schools and schools to support and promote the inclusion of children with sensory needs in a range of settings. New referrals should be made to either the Lead Advisory Teacher for Vision Impairment or the Lead Qualified Advisory Teacher of the Deaf using the number above.

What we do

  • Liaise with colleagues from Health and Social Care to ensure a joined-up approach with parents at the heart of decision making.
  • Provide specialist advice and reports for Special Educational Needs assessments.
  • Advice may also be sought from the SENCO of the child's early years setting or school.
  • Provide specialist technologies on an individual basis for curriculum access.

Parents are called within 24 hours of diagnosis which is fantastic. I had a call the evening we got our son's diagnosis and the sheer relief of knowing someone was there all ready to support us was invaluable.
