Oaks Rise is an alternative provision for autistic learners who have self-excluded from mainstream school due to high levels of anxiety, sensory, social and emotional needs. Our offer supports re-engagement with education whilst re-building self-esteem and wellbeing. Most of our learners have school trauma, varying degrees of demand avoidance and are often ‘high-maskers’ who internalise their distress. Many have experienced autistic burnout and have been disengaged from education, or struggled to attend, for some time. All learners have the potential to achieve high-level qualifications when supported in the right environment. We are not able to support learners who express their anxieties physically or who flee when distressed.
