Record Office supporters and volunteers

The West Sussex Archives Society, a registered charity, is the official Friends' organisation for the Record Office.

Its members are people who use the Record Office or wish to support its work. They support us by fundraising, stimulating interest in historical records and increasing awareness of the need for their preservation, serving on working parties and by other means. The chairman serves on our Record Office User Forum, helping us plan and deliver our services.

Members of the society enjoy outings, lectures and other activities to foster interest in the history of West Sussex.

The Sussex Family History Group is an active family history society with thousands of members across East and West Sussex.

They support us by indexing historical sources relating to West Sussex, joining us at family history fairs and open days, promoting our services to its members and making donations for the purchase of archives.

A member of the Sussex Family History Group also serves on our Record Office User Forum, helping us plan and deliver our services.

The Sussex Record Society is a registered charity that commissions research on the history of Sussex using historical documents held by the Record Office and other institutions.

They support us by encouraging people to conduct historical research and supplying the results of their work to the Record Office.

We have opportunities for people with a little time to spare to help us look after the county's heritage.

There are a variety of roles available and full training and support will be given. Volunteering will also give you the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people.
