Richard Burrett was elected as West Sussex County Councillor for Pound Hill & Worth Division in June 2009 and has been a member of Crawley Borough Council since 1992. Richard has a special interest in education, and serves as Chair of Governors at a primary school and Vice-Chair at secondary school, as well as being a member of the Court of Sussex University. He is also a trustee of Crawley Open House and was previously a Non-Executive Director of the former Crawley Primary Care Trust. Outside of politics, Richard's interests include music, walking and exploring the countryside.

Richard is the Cabinet Member for Education and Skills.
