Family Information Service website accessibility statement

Accessibility statement for the Family Information Service website.

A third party called Servelec Ltd built our Family Information Service website.

This is ‘skinned’ to look like the WSCC website and maintained by West Sussex County Council’s Family Information Service.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use the website, so we are always working to make it as accessible and usable as possible.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300 per cent without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader.

We have also tried to make the website text easy to understand.

You can find advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability on AbilityNet.

How accessible the website is

We know some parts of the website are not fully accessible, for example:

  • colour contrast is poor in the page footer
  • some parts of the Provider Portal may not be fully accessible.

What to do if you can’t access parts of the website

If you need information on the website in a different format, please contact the Family Information Service.

We will consider your request and aim to reply within 20 working days.

Reporting accessibility problems with the website

We’re always looking to improve the accessibility of the website.

If you find any problems that aren’t listed on this page or think we’re not meeting the requirements of the accessibility regulations, please contact us at:

Enforcement procedure

If you have made a complaint and you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about the website's accessibility

The website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard. This is due to the non-compliance issues listed below:

  • Colour contrast is low in the page footer. We are currently working to improve this to ensure that it adheres to the standard.
  • Parts of the Online Provider Portal (OPP) may be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard, or with screen reader or speech recognition software, and does not allow zooming in to 300 per cent without the text spilling off the screen. Servelec are currently working to improve accessibility within the OPP to ensure that as and when a major revision of the OPP is completed, it adheres to the standard.

Content that is not within the scope of the regulations

We are not required to make PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 accessible if they’re not essential to providing our services.

How we tested the website

Servelec tested the functionality of the site using a range of accessibility tools, including Deque's Axe toolset. This ensures that all software development complies with the latest accessibility standard.

The Family Information Service tested the website’s appearance (skin) for colour contrast, and the text for ease of understanding.

When deciding on a sample of pages to test, we based our choices on:

  • our most popular pages
  • pages we had already been told about through feedback from people using the website
  • pages that gave a good example of each one of our templates
  • pages that included web forms.

This statement was prepared on 23 November 2020 and updated on 19 January 2022.
