Register of members' and officers' interests
Members' interests
Members are required to register their financial and other
interests within 28 days of their election or appointment to
office. These details are held in a Register of Members'
Interests (see 'Supporting document' below) maintained by the
Head of Legal and Democratic Services. The Register contains those
interests listed in Part 8 of the County Council's Code of
Conduct, namely:
Financial interests
- The member's job and business(es).
- The name of the member's employer, the name of any corporate
body which has a place of business in the County Council's area and
in which the member has a beneficial interest worth more than
£25,000 or 1% of the total issued share capital of that body.
- The name of any person (other than a relevant authority) who
has helped the member with expenses associated with his/her duty as
a member.
- Any contracts for goods, services or works between the
authority and the member or any firm in which the member is a
partner or director.
- Any land in which the member has a beneficial interest (for
example, if they own or rent it) any land in the County
Council's area for which the member has a licence from the
authority to occupy for 28 days or more.
- Any land which any firm or company of which the member is a
partner or director leases from the County Council.
- The name of any person from whom the member has received a gift
or hospitality with an estimated value of at least £25.00.
Other interests
Membership of, or position of general control or
management in:
- organisations where the member represents the County
Council;
- other public authorities or organisations delivering public
function;
- organisations whose main purpose includes influencing public
opinion or policy;
- companies, industrial and provident societies, charities or
charitable organisations;
- trade unions or professional associations.
A hardcopy version of the Register may be inspected in person at
County Hall, Chichester during normal office hours. Any queries

Officers’ interests
Every officer is under the same obligation as a member to avoid
any conflict between their personal interests and those of the
County Council. The Register of Officers’ Interests, which is
maintained by the Head of Legal and Democratic Services, is
available below (see 'Supporting document') and contains
details of:
- Financial, contractual or business interests, whether
remunerated or not (including those of close family) which have or
could have any connection with the work of or provision of services
by the Council or by any of its direct suppliers contractors or
partners.
- An interest in land or other property affected by any business,
operational procedure, contract, planning application or any other
matter being or expected to be considered by the Council.
- Any family or personal interest in or connection with any
business of the Council which, if disclosed, could give reasonable
cause to question whether the officer’s judgment or where the
interests of the County Council could be prejudiced.
- All gifts, gratuities, facilities, entertainment, tickets to
events, meals and benefits in kind from whatever source given or
received by the officer or close family as a result of or in
connection with a relationship formed through County Council
business unless the actual or estimated value is
negligible.
