What is open data?
As a publicly-funded organisation we are committed to
transparency. In our Performance
Framework for 2011-2014 we have made a commitment to produce
and publish data to help residents hold us to account.
We want to make our data
openly available for the benefit of everyone, so that others can
re-use it, present it in new ways, mix it with other data and use
it for new purposes. The West Sussex County Council Open Data
Strategy sets out our vision for open data, the way in which we
will achieve that vision and our agreement to publish data.
We are now providing data
in our 'West Sussex data store'. This
is data about West Sussex, and about the Council and its services.
Already we publish a great deal of information, but the data store
contains raw data, basic facts and figures that can be re-used.
We will extend the data
store when new data becomes available, or existing data is
transformed into a re-usable format.
