Next steps on proposals for future of primary education in Chichester

County council received more than 600 responses to the initial consultation

Release date: 28 March 2024

Proposals on the future of primary education in Chichester have taken the next step forward with a decision to move to formal consultation.

You can read the county council’s full decision here.

The key proposal is to relocate Jessie Younghusband Primary School, which would enable St Anthony’s Special School to expand and create extra places for children with special educational needs.

Also included is a proposal on the schools’ catchment areas and those of Parklands Community Primary School and Fishbourne C of E Primary School.

West Sussex County Council received more than 600 responses to the initial consultation that ran between December and January, the results of which were scrutinised in detail at a recent county meeting of the Children and Young People’s Services Scrutiny Committee.

Statutory notices detailing the proposals relating to Jessie Younghusband Primary School are due to be published and a formal consultation due to open on 18 April for four weeks.

Further statutory notices on proposals relating to St Anthony’s Special School are due to be published later in the year.

Anyone may make representation of further new comments and views, though please note comments cannot be a repeat of information or views already provided in the previous consultation.

Details of the proposals will be available on the day they are published on our Your Voice webpages here.

Copies of the proposals can also be requested after publication date by writing to: School Consultations, West Sussex County Council, Ground Floor, Northleigh, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1RH.

When the consultation opens, you will be able to make further comments by emailing schoolconsultations@westsussex.gov.uk or via post at the address above.
