Retained/RDS/on-call pre-recruitment events

If you have already expressed an interest in coming to a pre-recruitment event, we will hold your details until our next event. Check the vacancies for Retained Firefighters page for how to be invited.

Pre-recruitment events are held at regular periods throughout the year.
At these events you will undergo a bleep/shuttle run, and literacy and numeracy assessments.

Following these events, if you pass and are able to offer us the cover we require at our fire stations, you are then invited into the National Firefighter Selection Tests. If you are successful you can expect to be on contract within 10 weeks.

Positive action

From time to time we run positive action events to encourage people from certain under-represented backgrounds and identities to apply to West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Dates will be publicised on this website.
