Commercial training courses

In 2006 The Regulatory Reform Order came into force bringing together all aspects of fire legislation.

Article 21 of the Order states that ‘the Responsible Person’ must provide adequate fire safety training for their staff.

Fire safety training

The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) can assist you in meeting the requirements of the Regulatory Reform Order by providing you and your staff with fire safety training.

Why should you choose the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service for your staff training?

  • All training courses are run by experienced operational firefighters.
  • The WSFRS is a non-profit making organisation and can offer courses at competitive rates.
  • Courses can be tailored to your specific requirements.
  • Courses can be run on your premises thus reducing the time taken to deliver the training.
  • We also offer places on our monthly ‘open’ courses, for small numbers of staff, at Worthing Fire Station.

We offer the following courses:

  • Fire awareness - A course which will provide staff with a basic understanding of fire and the actions to take in the event of a fire.

  • Fire extinguisher training - A course which will provide members of staff with an awareness of the dangers of fire and how to protect themselves at home and at work.

  • Fire Warden - A course which will provide appointed members of staff with a greater understanding of the action to be taken in the event of fire and their additional responsibilities.

  • Fire risk assessment training - A course which will give selected members of staff a basic understanding of the principals of fire risk assessment which will enable them to carry out a fire risk assessment of their premises.

  • First Aid - We run both the initial 4-day course and the 2-day course refresher. The 1-day Appointed Persons courses can also be provided.

  • Manual handling - Another aspect of ensuring the safety of staff is providing them with information on how to protect themselves when lifting.

We also offer first aid and manual handling courses to help you meet your health and safety obligations. In addition, we can service and maintain your fire extinguishers in accordance with British Standard 5306.

To book a course, for further information or an informal discussion of your particular needs, please contact the Commercial Training Department by filling in the online 'expression of interest' form below.
