Babysitters

How babysitters operate, the legalities, and other things to consider.

Babysitters tend to be young people, from the local area, who can help with occasional child care. We do not provide details of babysitters. These are normally found through word of mouth.

There is no legal age at which young people can look after children, but be aware that if you employ a babysitter who is under 16 years of age, you are legally responsible for their safety, as well as your child's. If your child is thought to be at risk because they are not being looked after properly you could be prosecuted.
