Growers competition

Are you a Sussex-based grower interested in deploying digital technologies to support sustainable production of your produce?

We are inviting interested growers from West and East Sussex to apply to join a pipeline of participants supporting the project by working with the colleges to steer technology and skills development.

These will be in response to ‘real world’ demand for growing applications that are deployed over digital connectivity.

As a condition of the scheme you will collaborate with the relevant college(s) to provide learning opportunities and possible placements for students and to ensure that the technologies you are deploying inform the curriculums accordingly.

We will ask you to contribute to regular reporting that West Sussex County Council (WSCC) will undertake to report on progress and learning from the project.

Growers that apply, if successful, will join our pipeline of organisations that are eligible to benefit from the scheme. You will then be kept regularly updated on the project progress and will have the opportunity to participate in learning and showcasing events where appropriate.

If selected from the pipeline for inclusion within the project, we will ask you to sign a Collaboration Agreement that sets out the basis of your involvement.

This may include provision of advanced wireless connectivity from our contracted telecoms supplier for a defined period. This may be at a reduced rate or/at potentially no cost to you, in exchange for a commitment to showcase your deployment of technology across your business.

Other activities could include:

  • allocating a specific area of your site for hosting demonstrations to interested parties
  • working with the supplier and colleges to trial new applications and devices
  • sharing data collected for analysis
  • creating content for information sharing and dissemination via visual and in person presentations
  • social media and audio/video.

We will also ask you to contribute to regular reporting that WSCC will undertake to the funders, DSIT, on progress and learning from the project.

For information and to make an application email growingsussex@westsussex.gov.uk.
