Adult social care strategy

View the strategy for adult social care in West Sussex 2026.

Our adult social care strategy sets out the principles and priorities that will guide the future development of services in West Sussex. To support adults of all ages, as well as family and friend carers, we developed it in partnership with:

  • people who experience care
  • carers
  • council staff
  • the NHS
  • district and borough councils
  • our voluntary, community and social enterprise partners

It sets out a shared goal for adult social care in West Sussex. With an approach that is joined up, sustainable and centred on the needs, strengths and experiences of local people. The strategy supports Our Council Plan priority of keeping people safe from vulnerable situations. It focuses on helping people:

  • to live well
  • to be as independent as possible
  • to draw on their own strengths, relationships and support networks
  • with clear information, advice and guidance
  • with the right help at the right time
  • get help close to home
  • to understand their options
  • to access the right care and support when they need more help

It also recognises the importance of working in a way that is financially sustainable. So adult social care can continue to meet people’s needs now and in the future.
