Youth Emotional Support (YES) service

How to access free wellbeing support for 11 to 18 year olds.

1 Overview

Youth Emotional Support (YES) is a free service for young people aged 11-18 looking for support with their wellbeing.

Note: We must receive the referral before you turn 18.

Some of the things we can support you with include:

  • your mood
  • feeling anxious
  • relationship issues
  • self-injury
  • unhelpful thoughts
  • self esteem
  • significant life event
  • anything that might be worrying you.

The type of help we can offer includes one-to-one support. We can also tell you about online or face-to-face counselling and other agencies that can support and advise you.

2 How to access the service

YES is now part of a 'single point of access'. This mean children and young people can request support for emotional wellbeing and mental health support through one route.

3 What happens next?

All referrals will be reviewed by a panel of specialists from YES, YMCA Dialogue and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

You will be:

  • allocated support from the service that best meets your needs
  • contacted to inform you of the next steps, depending on the support offered.

4 Is your life in danger?

If you feel that you are at immediate risk of harm to yourself or others due to your mental health:

  • visit your GP
  • contact NHS 111 out of hours, or
  • visit your local hospital's Accident and Emergency (A&E) department.

The Sussex Mental Health Line is also available 24/7 on 030 050 00101.

If you have seriously harmed yourself, call 999 or go straight to A&E.
