Shorter wait at traffic lights for drivers in Southgate Avenue

Two junctions in Crawley in line for traffic signal improvements.

Drivers can expect shorter waiting times at two busy junctions in Crawley outside peak hours.

West Sussex County Council is improving traffic signals in Southgate Avenue at the following locations and times, subject to change:

  • Southgate Avenue/Hawth Avenue junction, between Tuesday, July 14 and Thursday, 16 July; and
  • Southgate Avenue/Southgate Drive junction, between Monday, July 20 and Wednesday, 22 July.

Once installed, the new technology will be more reactive to traffic approaching the junction.

Outside peak times, this will prevent vehicles waiting when there is no opposing traffic.

Temporary three-way signals will need to be in place for the duration of the works, and some lane narrowing will be required.

Similar works are planned for the Southgate Avenue/Tilgate Way and Southgate Avenue/Ashdown Drive junctions in September.
