Resurfacing works scheduled for A29/A264 Five Oaks roundabout

Release date: 24 March 2023

Overnight resurfacing works will be taking place on the A29/A264 Five Oaks roundabout in Billingshurst from 29 March to 31 March 2023 between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

During this time, Five Oaks roundabout and its approaches will be closed to all through traffic with diversions in place and some side roads affected.

Whilst the works are scheduled to take place overnight, ancillary works such as road marking replacement may take place outside of these hours once the new road surface has cooled sufficiently. Every effort will be made to carry out the noisiest operations in the earliest part of the evening and before 23.00 to minimise disruption to nearby residents.

A West Sussex County Council highways officer said: “We appreciate that there are already diversions in place in Billingshurst and the diversion signs for this set of works will be clearly marked to avoid confusion.

“The time and date of these works has been carefully considered to minimise disruption to road users and nearby residents but is necessary for us to undertake this work as the road is showing signs of significant weakening.

“The works are in line with our Council Plan of supporting a sustainable and prosperous economy through providing a safer, more efficient and overall resilient transport network”

Once the resurfacing work is completed the road will be smoother, provide a better running surface and be more resilient to the formation of potholes. It will also reduce the potential for more frequent and costly disruption from localised, small repairs.

Signage has been erected in advance, informing of the works and local residents and businesses who may be impacted by the closure have been sent a letter outlining the details. Full information on the closure can be found on https://one.network
