Longer opening hours at Recycling Centres

Release date: 28 March 2022

As we enjoy the first days of summer, Recycling Centres across West Sussex will soon be switching to extended opening hours – meaning residents will have extra opportunities to recycle their household waste.

The longer opening hours means even more residents will be able to access Recycling Centres, as more of us decide to do a summer clear-out or tackle home improvements.

From 1 April, Recycling Centres will be open on the following days and times:

Billingshurst: 9am to 6pm - Monday to Wednesday and Saturday to Sunday
Bognor Regis: 9am to 6pm - Monday to Wednesday and Saturday to Sunday
Burgess Hill: 9am to 6pm - Monday to Sunday
Chichester: 9am to 6pm - Monday to Sunday
Crawley: 9am to 6pm - Monday to Sunday
East Grinstead: 9am to 6pm - Monday, Thursday to Sunday
Horsham: 9am to 6pm - Monday, Thursday to Sunday
Littlehampton: 9am to 6pm - Monday, Thursday to Sunday
Midhurst: 9am to 6pm - Monday, Thursday to Sunday
Shoreham-by-Sea: 9am to 6pm - Wednesday to Sunday
Worthing: 9am to 6pm - Monday to Sunday

These hours will run from 1 April until 30 September 2022.

Some sites require pre-booking to visit a Recycling Centre using the Book to Recycle system and West Sussex County Council is reminding residents to check their website beforehand.

Deborah Urquhart, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change said: “Each year, the start of summer sees a surge in demand for our Recycling Centres as more people take advantage of the warmer weather and have a clear-out or spruce up their gardens.

“Our Book to Recycle system is in place at our busiest sites, meaning demand is evened out during the day to minimise queuing and to do the right thing with recycling and waste without delay. Feedback from customers tells us the system makes the whole process easier and faster, especially when recycling large amounts.

“Booking a slot takes less than 60 seconds and we’ve just introduced same day appointments at sites for those wanting to make an impromptu visit to their local Recycling Centre.

“All the details are available on our website, and I encourage everyone to take a look.”

More information on Recycling Centres, how to book an appointment at certain sites can be found at www.westsussex.gov.uk/recycling.
