Release date: 11 February 2019

Avoiding rogue traders is becoming easier thanks to West Sussex Trading Standards service’s new Buy With Confidence Directory 2019.

The Buy With Confidence scheme aims to protect consumers from illegitimate businesses.

Businesses that have been vetted and approved by Trading Standards are included in the Buy With Confidence directory which is published twice a year and is available to pick up or online.

Peter Aston, Trading Standards Team Manager, said: “I would urge anyone looking to buy from a West Sussex business to pick up a copy of this directory and also encourage businesses to join the scheme.

“When you choose a Buy With Confidence Approved business you can feel confident that our teams have vetted and approved them.
“If you are a business and would like become a member of Buy With Confidence, get in touch.”

Debbie Kennard, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Safer, Stronger Communities, said: “Buy With Confidence benefits both consumers and legitimate businesses.

“Its aim is to stamp out rogue traders in West Sussex and is run by local authorities on a not-for-profit basis, so all fees go back into the running and promotion of the scheme.”

Hundreds of businesses are members of the Buy With Confidence scheme. A year’s membership can cost from as little as 69p a day and includes free website listing and inclusion in the Buy with Confidence directory, which is promoted throughout West Sussex and Brighton and Hove. Approved businesses can use the Buy With Confidence stamp on their own promotional material. If you are interested in becoming a member, visit: www.westsussex.gov.uk/bwc
