Help shape our plan to improve the lives of children and young people

Released: 14 April 2022

Families across West Sussex have the chance to help shape a plan being developed to make life better for our children and young people over the next three years.

West Sussex County Council’s Children and Young People Plan for 2022 to 2025 will set out the priorities the Council and our partners should focus on, agree targets and how we’ll achieve them.

A draft of the plan has been published and we are now asking people to take a few minutes to complete this short survey to let us know what they think.

Comments will inform and help us develop the three key priorities we have identified:

• Keeping children and young people safe
• Addressing poverty and closing the disadvantage gap
• Improving emotional health and well-being

Jacquie Russell, Cabinet Member for Children & Young People, said: “The Children and Young People Plan is an important document that reinforces our commitment to putting children first, and establishes how West Sussex County Council and our Children First partners* will work to keep children safe from harm and empower them to reach their full potential. Key to delivering this will be providing families with the right support at the right time so they can stay together safely.

“To help us develop our priorities, we have been speaking to groups of young people, parents and carers and various organisations. Now we have a first draft, we want to hear from parents, carers, and people who work with children such as health workers, school staff, for charities and anyone who would like to help us to improve the lives of our young people.

“We are committed to continuing our own children’s services improvement journey, which has just been recognised by the government, and achieving the ambitions within this plan will be an important part of that journey so families receive the support they need when they need it.”

The consultation is open for 12 weeks until 26 June 2022.

The results will influence the priorities in the final plan, changes needed, and how it should be presented to and shared with our communities.

* The Children First Partnership is made up of lots of different organisations and groups of people in West Sussex, who all have the will to make things better for children and young people. The Partnership approach puts children and young people first; and making things better for them and their families is at the heart of what we do.
