Release date: 24 August 2020
People are invited to share their views to inform a new strategy to give children in care and care leavers the best possible help and support when they need it.
West Sussex County Council has been developing this new Children Looked After (CLA) strategy which sets out how this will be achieved.
A consultation is now open and runs until 16 September 2020. Children in care, foster carers, professionals and members of the public are encouraged to give their views.
Jacquie Russell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Getting this strategy right is integral to achieving our ambition to put children and young people at the centre of everything we do.
“In West Sussex we strive to be excellent corporate parents, and to work tirelessly for and with our children looked after and our care leavers, to help them achieve their potential and to ensure that their voice is sought out, heard and responded to.
“I’d encourage people to share their views to help us make this the best plan we can create and one that has the greatest impact on the lives of young people in care and care leavers.”
A copy of the full draft strategy for children and young people who are in care and care leavers is available on the online Consultation Hub.
Foster carers, professionals and members of the public can take part in the consultation at www.westsussex.gov.uk/clastrategy
