A handy house-shaped checklist about choosing care is now available across West Sussex.

The checklist, has information to help people if they are choosing a care home or care in their own home.

It has a list of prompts and questions such as:

  • What are the costs?
  • Check the current Care Quality Commission report for the service.
  • Can a care plan be agreed and changed easily to suit your needs and preferences?

The checklist, which was trialled in the Crawley area over the summer, can be downloaded on the County Council's website or is available from:

  • libraries
  • GP surgeries
  • pharmacies
  • Citizens Advice
  • social workers

The checklist is also available to download on the connect to support website, from Age UK branches and Carers Support West Sussex.

Peter Catchpole, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “Making a choice about care is one of the biggest decisions people have to make. It can be a lot of information to take in all in one go so we hope these checklists prove a valuable source of information with prompts about questions to ask.”
