Concerns have been answered about a footway/cycle lane serving several community facilities in Angmering.
The anti-slip element of the green-coloured cycle lane in Rowan Way and Nursery Road had worn away and became extremely slippery in the wet. The path serves a school, playground and community centre, and residents, Angmering Parish Council and the Local County Councillor highlighted their concerns.
The footway/cycleway was found to be structurally sound, so has now been resurfaced by West Sussex County Council to provide improved grip and longevity. A coloured surface was also avoided to prevent the same issue from reoccurring, and to reduce the ongoing maintenance costs associated with that type of material.
The contractor, FM Conway, carried out the work in the school holidays to try to minimise disruption as much as possible.
Deborah Urquhart, the Local County Councillor for Angmering and Findon, said: “I’m really pleased that this footway/cycle lane has been re-surfaced. I was receiving reports that the old path had become slippery and, along with the Parish Council, asked the County Council to take action. The new path looks great, is safer for children and has been well received by residents and the Parish Council.”
The cost of the project was about £51,000.
