Release date: 11 November 2019
Planning permission for the demolition of Burrscrofte (former care home) in Pond Road, Shoreham has been granted by West Sussex County Council planners.
The West Sussex County Council owned building, which has been vacant since 2007, has suffered from deterioration and vandalism since its closure, with ongoing security and maintenance issues.
Initial works will begin in mid-November with the main demolition taking place in early-December. The entire programme of works will be completed by the middle of January 2020.
The removal of the Burrscrofte building will enable the re-development of the Pond Road site and enhance the conservation area in the intervening period. The site will be left safe and secure following the completion of the works, with secure hoarding (2.4m high) surrounding the perimeter of the site.
None of the surrounding buildings will need to close while the works are taking place.
The demolition works are being delivered under the One Public Estate (OPE) programme and is part of the Adur and Worthing Growth Deal.
OPE is a Government programme aimed at supporting public sector partnerships to work together to rationalise and reduce the overall public estate, and release surplus land to provide new housing, economic growth, and support the development of new facilities to deliver better integrated public services.
