Release date: 14 April 2022
Firefighters at Bognor Regis Fire Station are on the hunt for more people to join their team as retained (on-call) firefighters.
They will be opening up the fire station doors on Saturday 23 April to those interested in finding out what a career as a retained firefighter can offer.
Members of the community can come along to the event at West Meads Drive between 10am and 2pm.
Retained firefighters often have full time employment elsewhere in the community but live or work within close proximity to one of the service’s fire stations. When on duty they can be paged at any time to respond to an emergency situation.
The event will offer an insight into the role of a retained firefighter and offer an opportunity for people to meet their local crew and ask any questions they may have about joining the fire service as a retained firefighter.
Alastair Letchford, Station Manager at Bognor Fire Station said: “Becoming a retained firefighter is a fantastic way of giving back to your community whilst being part of a great team and learning valuable skills.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming people from outside the fire service onto the station. There will be a chance to learn about the application process, meet our current retained firefighters and explore the fire station.
“The day will be very relaxed, informal and completely commitment-free, so please pop down and find out whether a career in the fire service is for you.”
