WSCC SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) Volunteers

About

This is a West Sussex County Council service.

Do you have an interest in making a difference to someone's day by helping support them in their situation? Volunteers of West Sussex SEND Information, Advice and Support Service help provide support to parent carers of children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.

If you are interested in volunteering for us then we would like to hear from you.

What we do

  • The majority of our work is offering support to parent carers at school meetings, which focus on the child's educational, health or social needs or attendance
  • As part of this support, we can help prepare the parent carers for these different types of school meetings
  • In the meeting, we take unofficial notes so that the parent carers can concentrate on what is being said. We may also help the parent carer to put their point across or help get clarification on anything which is unclear
  • We can help parent carers write a request for an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • We can also help parent carers to complete related paperwork for EHCPs, annual reviews, appeals or complaints

Our users say

The work is very varied and interesting. We get a lot of good training and I have learnt a lot. It is very rewarding when things go well and a parent gets the special needs provision they want for their child. Helen (SENDIAS Volunteer).
