Ingfield Manor School for Parents

Ingfield Manor School for Parents is a unique service for families of babies and very young children from 0 to 5 years. The service works in partnership with parents to educate the young child with cerebral palsy or other motor learning difficulties and allied learning needs.

This service is located on site with Ingfield Manor School which is a non maintained specialist school for students aged between 3 to 19 years who have neurological motor impairments.

What we do

  • Parents and children learn daily living skills together using the principles of Conductive Education. The ethos of active learning through play and partnership with parents is central to the practice of School for Parents.
  • The service delivers weekly one and a half hour group sessions or one hour individual sessions should an appropriate group not be available.
  • The weekly sessions involve the children in active sitting, standing, stepping, walking, manipulation, communication, social skills, cognitive development and self-help skills.
  • Children are motivated to learn through the use of fun activities, games, songs and stories based on termly topics.
  • Solid support and practical advice is provided to parents within an encouraging environment so they can play a key role in the teaching partnership.
