Bookstart

Learn about free book packs for all babies and preschool children.

Bookstart Baby

This free pack is available for all babies. It is usually given by your health visitor at the 6-8 weeks health check. Each pack contains two baby books, a rhyme sheet and information about sharing stories and rhymes with babies.

If you do not receive your pack from a health visitor please ask in your local library.

Bookstart Treasure

Treasure packs are given free to all 3-year-olds. They are usually delivered to the child's nursery, preschool or playgroup two terms after their third birthday. Each pack contains two picture books, a mark making book, colouring pencils and information about sharing stories with preschool children.

If you do not receive your pack through a nursery, preschool or playgroup please ask in your local library.

Booktouch and Bookshine for children with a sensory impairment

These packs are designed to enable children with visual or hearing impairment to enjoy books. Booktouch or Bookshine packs each contain a touch and feel book. The Booktouch pack also includes an audio CD to share rhymes, while the Bookshine pack includes information to share stories and rhymes through signing.

Please ask in your local library for one of these packs.

Dual language books

A range of books are available in dual language format – English words alongside another language. Families where another language is spoken in the home may receive an extra book in this format.

Please ask in your local library if you need one of these books.
