Family history research in libraries

Details of the resources we have available to help you research your family history.

Family history sources

Sources of information on families in Sussex, the British Isles and the world from the late Middle Ages to the 21st century are available via the Library Service. Our family history resources page will provide you with further details.

Within the County Library Service, Worthing Library offers the largest collection of family history sources. The other large town libraries at Bognor Regis, Burgess Hill, Chichester, Crawley, East Grinstead, Horsham, Littlehampton, and Shoreham concentrate on Sussex sources and their own catchment area. We produce various source sheets listing print and online resources.

Both Ancestry and Find My Past family history websites are available free to use on any library computer and at the Record Office in Chichester, where you can also find a wealth of other information.

You can also access other related websites through eInformation, either at home or in libraries. Sites include 'Dictionary of National Biography', 'Times Digital Archive' (from 1785) and 'Who Was Who'.
