Premises guides

Buildings, structures and open spaces covered by the Fire Safety Order.

Virtually all premises and nearly every type of building, structure and open space are covered by the Fire Safety Order (FSO). The FSO applies to communal areas within flats. However, it does not apply to people’s private homes.

Where can I find guidance booklets?

The following government collection provides guidance for those with legal duties in a range of premises and situations - Fire safety: guidance for those with legal duties (GOV.UK).

The existing government guides, found below, provide information to help you understand, conduct and regularly review your fire risk assessment for your specific type of premises. It should be noted that these documents have not yet been reviewed following the changes made to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 by Section 156 of the Building Safety Act 2022.
