George Barton was born in Gillingham, Kent and attended the local Grammar school. He entered the field of Training and Development joining one of the old Industrial Training Boards. He was recruited from this to become Sales and Marketing Director of a National Commercial Stationary company. Finally, he set up his own consultancy specialising in the drawing up of Marketing Plans and implementation of Sales Training. George has attended many seminars throughout Europe as a Motivational Speaker.

George took badly to retirement and entered local politics, becoming Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group of York City Unitary Authority. He served in the Territorial Army for 20 years achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Lt col Barton has been a devoted family man for 52 years, with two children and one granddaughter.
