Support for children aged 5 and over with SEND

Find out how to get support for children over 5 years old with additional needs and/or a disability.

To access help and support, firstly contact your child's:

  • class teacher
  • school's special educational needs coordinator (SENCo)
  • head teacher.

You can also contact the West Sussex SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIAS), which advises parents on all aspects of special educational needs and getting support for children and young people (age 0-25) in their education setting. The service also offers information, advice and support to the children and young people themselves, to help them think about their future aspirations and options.

They can provide information on:

  • the special educational needs process
  • support during the school application process
  • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and the needs assessment process
  • annual reviews
  • appeals and tribunals.

There is further information on SENDIAS and the information resources they produce on their website.
