Could you foster?

Find out what it takes to become a foster carer.

1 Overview

Do you want to make a difference for a child in West Sussex?

Join our fostering community and support local children who are unable to live at home by providing a safe, secure and loving environment and helping them through a challenging time in their life.

The Fostering Recruitment Team is currently expanding to recruit more foster carers across the county, so it is an exciting time to join us.

We are looking for people from diverse backgrounds with a range of life experiences to support local children of all ages. We would love to hear from you if you enjoy spending time with children and would like to change a child’s life for the better.

“It is SO worth it! Please consider making that first call and start on the same adventure.”

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter or read our blog for real life stories.

2 What's involved?

Children may be placed with you on a short term or longer term basis. As a foster carer, you will be working alongside social workers, other professionals and birth families to gain the best outcomes for the child.

You will be expected to do the usual parenting tasks and to take the child to school and to health appointments, attend school open evenings, buy clothes and school uniforms and help them with their homework. You will attend meetings about the child and keep records of their stay with you.

West Sussex foster carers are supported by locally based, highly trained, dedicated social workers. Please see our support page and foster care allowance page for details on the support package available to our foster carers.

If you are already fostering, we can help you to transfer to us.

3 Which type of fostering?

As a West Sussex foster carer you may decide to specialise in a certain type of fostering.

To find out more about which type is right for you see our types of fostering page.
