Supporting Lives Connecting People

The future of adult social care in West Sussex

About

About

About

Our vision for the future is to reach out to people in their communities to help support their independence and quality of life.

We are running a trial in four areas of West Sussex, to test out a new approach to supporting residents who have adult social care needs.  We want to meet people, their families and carers in local settings to talk about the support they need.

Talk Local

If you live in one of the four areas below then please come and meet our local teams who are holding 'Talk Local' sessions so they can start a conversation with you about any help or support you, or a family or friend, may need to live independently.

Please look at the tabs in this section for your area, where you can find out when the Talk Local sessions are running.

Here are some examples of areas that you can get information and advice about:

  • Ideas on how to get out and about.
  • What groups and activities there are for you to take part in.
  • Support if you are a family or friend carer.
  • Making sure you keep safe and well.
  • What help you could get at home.
  • How much it costs for care and how to pay for it.

If you are unable to leave your home, for example due to illness or a disability, please contact our Adults’ CarePoint on 01243 642121 or email: socialcare@westsussex.gov.uk. We will discuss your situation with you and we'll arrange to visit you if necessary.

New approach

This new approach is based on local and national best practice, and we’ve taken account of what our customers and carers have told us about their past experiences. This gives us confidence that we will deliver real benefits to local people.

We'll trial the new way of working in the communities and people will be asked to comment on their experience of the new model, to help shape the future of social care in West Sussex.

We have selected four innovation sites across the county to test the approach in the following areas:

  • Sompting and Lancing
  • West Crawley: Broadfield, Bewbush, Ifield, Tilgate, Southgate and Gossops Green
  • Chichester Rural: Petworth, Midhurst, Pulborough, Loxwood and Billingshurst
  • East Grinstead

To find out more about support to help you live independently, please visit Connect to Support or call our Adults’ CarePoint on 01243 642121.

If you would like to know more about the new approach, please email supportinglives.connectingpeople@westsussex.gov.uk

Help us shape how we deliver adult social care

Help us shape how we deliver adult social care

We’d like to find out what you think about the new approach we’ve been trialling since January this year; where people, their families and carers can meet with council staff in local settings to discuss their social care needs.

Our aim is to:

  • talk to more people at an earlier stage and support them to stay as independent as possible
  • hold informal drop-in sessions in local communities, where people can talk to the county council about social care
  • help to connect people to services and activities in their local communities.

We’d like to find out your thoughts to help shape how the county council delivers adult social care in the future. Fill-in our survey here.

The survey will be live until Friday 11 August.
