With you, with the child…Every step of the way

We’re working together as one professional team, in an environment based on high challenge and high support, creating more positive outcomes for the children and families in our care.

Our Directorate provides crucial services to the children and families of West Sussex with the goal of achieving the best outcomes for our children by putting them at the forefront of everything we do - this means listening, being open, being agile and being flexible in our response. It also means streamlining access for children and families seeking help and support, providing easy access for professionals with concerns about a child, and providing easy pathways to services at all levels.

We were rated as “Requiring improvement” in our 2015 Ofsted inspection, this is not where we want to be. We are looking for someone who shares our ambition to be the very best we can be to join us to make a real and positive difference for the children in our county. This role, and you will play a key part in our success.

This influential role is system-wide, which means it is a unique opportunity to work right across early help, social care and health. It will lead the strategic programmes of commissioning for children and families, driving innovation to deliver better outcomes, financial efficiencies and new models of service delivery to include closer and greater integration with partners and providers, especially in the Health sector.

You will be experienced in commissioning and service re-design with a good knowledge of the children’s social care agenda as well as public sector services in general. You will be able to successfully collaborate with multiple partners and stakeholders, be forward thinking, have innovative ideas, and be able to make bold decisions. Above all you will bring energy, drive and passion to this crucial role.

Why West Sussex?

Why West Sussex?

West Sussex is a beautiful county, with large administrative and economic centres in Chichester, Horsham, Crawley, Bognor Regis and Worthing. Contained within the South Downs National Park is some of the country's most beautiful countryside and picturesque villages.

If you love outdoor activities then this is the county for you. The South Downs are a rambler's paradise, while the coast from West Wittering to Worthing offers beautiful beaches and the opportunity for kite surfing, sailing and kayaking.

We also host some of the country's finest events. Cowdray Park is the home of British polo and the Goodwood estate plays host to the Festival of Speed, Glorious Goodwood and the Goodwood Revival. If you're a theatre goer you can take in a show before it hits the West End at the renowned Chichester Festival Theatre.

There's something here for everyone. Great shops, lovely homes and a better quality of life. We're also surprisingly well connected. Gatwick International Airport sits at the top of the county, and London is 45 minutes from Horsham and 80 minutes from Chichester by train.
