Come and join our dedicated team at Singleton CE Primary School, a nurturing, small village school in the South Downs.

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant, to start with us in July 2024, working as part of the classroom team, supporting colleagues as necessary, working with children with an age range of 4-7.

The successful candidates will work alongside experienced staff to gain knowledge and skills related to this role. Where applicable, the successful candidate will complete a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship through an external provider. The provider must be organised and arranged by the candidate.

You will be able to use your initiative, show commitment and dedication and have the ability to work as part of a team.

Duties include:

• To work as part of the classroom team, supporting colleagues as necessary, both within the class team and across the whole school. To work under the direction of the class Teacher and the School Leadership Team

• To help provide a safe and happy environment in which the pupils can learn in line with the school’s vision and values

• To keep abreast of current trends and developments in education by reading, attending school in-service training and courses and to share information with colleagues and to gain the skills required to support children.

• To assist with the preparation of the classroom and tidying up of the classrooms and maintenance of equipment after each session as well as preparation of learning resources under the direction of the class teacher

• To help carry out the individual programmes of pupils as agreed with the class teacher, keeping records as
required including marking of pupils’ work and maintenance of learning journals

• To contribute to the systems of recording pupils progress and attainment

Desired skills

• Positive experience of working with children in an educational setting/primary age children
• Able to demonstrate an interest in working with and interacting with children
• A basic understanding of principles of child development and learning processes
• Good communication and listening skills
• Able to use technology to enhance learning/record keeping where necessary

Personal qualities

• Able to relate well to children and adults
• Able to work independently but to keep others informed both verbally and in written form
• Patience, co-operation, problem solving approach, adaptable and caring nature, use of initiative
• Understanding of roles and responsibilities and your contribution to pupils’ learning
• Understand the need for confidentiality when required
