Pensions Ombudsman case – Milne v GAD

Mr Milne claimed that the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) had a statutory duty to review the tables of commutation factors and that such a review would have led him to receive a larger lump sum.

Commutation is a procedure where a pension scheme member gives up all, or part of their pension in exchange for a lump sum.

The Pensions Ombudsman has now published his final determination in the case of Mr William Milne.

The Government recognises that there may be other individuals who are potentially affected by the principles set out in this determination.

If you are affected, you will be contacted once we have further information.

You can view an update on the government’s response and find further information at GOV.UK.
