How much does it cost to produce?
The County Council has a duty to provide information to
residents about council services. West Sussex Connections has
recently been reduced in frequency from 4 to 3 times a year, and
the cost of each edition is partially offset by advertising
revenue.
The newspaper contains news from Sussex Police and the local
NHS, as well as information from the County Council, which provides
80% of local services to almost 800,000 residents. This includes
Fire and Rescue, road maintenance, Trading Standards, libraries,
foster care and adoption, adult and children's social care,
community safety, waste disposal and many other vital services.
The figures for the last financial year (2010-2011) show that
the average cost of producing 4 issues a year is approximately
£0.29p per household per year.
