In the right Frame of Mind - 17 June 2011
About 4 or 5 years ago I visited
'Frame of Mind' in Bognor Regis, as they had won the West Sussex
Social Enterprise Innovation Award. Since then they have moved to a
larger unit in Arun Park Industrial Estate, also in Bognor Regis,
and last week I went to visit them again.
Frame of Mind is a Community Interest Company
that provides vocational training for adults with mental health
issues and learning difficulties. Through picture framing, the
trainees learn a variety of new skills.
It’s run by a dedicated group of people who
are totally committed to helping others gain confidence and
self-esteem. Learning new skills, many of which we take for
granted, helps the trainees take on new tasks in their lives. I
went down to see what they were doing and also because I had a
picture that needed framing.
There was such a warm welcome, but it is the
kindness and respect shown to everyone which is so very heart
warming. As a customer I thought the advice and service I received
was professional and very helpful. My picture will be ready in a
couple of weeks and Craig promised to phone me when it can be
collected.
Then Ian showed me around their spacious and
well equipped unit. I learnt they not only do picture framing, but
ceramics, digital printing, gardening, IT training and office
skills. Chichester College is a partner and they are also offering
work experience for pupils from St Anthony's School.
Frame of Mind and other similar enterprises
are run by very committed people who offer an opportunity to really
help others to expand and develop their lives. You can find out
more about them on their website.
Best wishes,
Louise Goldsmith
